1 week and counting

In just over one week, I'm running my very first half marathon.  About a month ago I saw that there was a half marathon in Wellington on February 20th, and something in me decided that it would be a really good idea to join in on the "fun."  So I asked my husband if he would run it with me, and he agreed, and we started "training."  Now, mind you, prior to this "training," the most I had run was maaaaaaaybe 25 minutes, at pretty much a crawling pace.  But nevertheless, we were committed to this thing, so we started upping the number of minutes we ran.  The first week we ran about 40 minutes with a little break in the middle so I could run into the grocery store and grab some ingredients for dinner.  The following weekend we upped it to 50 minutes.  The weekend after we did an hour and 10 minutes.  Then we upped it all the way to 90 minutes.  And this weekend, friends, we're running almost 11 miles (a half marathon is 13.1).  I don't even want to guess how long that's going to take me.  As a reward for all my hard work, I bought myself these...
shoes
Brand spanking new aasics.  LOVE these shoes!  Anyway, now the actual race day is going to be challenging for many reasons.  (1) I've never run that far before (2) especially after having a baby and therefore not working out pretty much at all for 9-ish months leading up to it and (3) I'll be leaving Riley with my in-laws for probably 4-5 hours, which is the longest we've left her for, and she might not take a bottle or go down easily for her nap.  We'll see how it goes!

In sort of related news, I have finally finally reached my pre-pregnancy weight!  Part of it is due to the increase in running, but mostly it's a result of me jumping on the "clean eating" bandwagon.  I'll do a full post about this later in case you're unfamiliar with clean eating, but in the last 10 days I've lost 6 pounds!  And no, don't you worry, I'm not starving!  Just eating super healthy!  More to come on that a bit later.  Oh and before you get all excited, my "pre-pregnancy weight" still leaves me with another 15 pounds to lose probably.  So I've still got some work to do! But hooray for me! :)

And a post is not complete without a picture of the baby bug.  We had a dinner picnic down at the park, and Mark just couldn't resist.

I am SO excited for you to run the half marathon. It is amazing that you now have the time to start running again because I knowwww you love it! I wish could be there at the finish line to hand you a Diet Coke...because I know you'll be craving one and it is the perfect re-hydrating beverage ;)

I miss you and can't wait until you're back in the US so we can run together.
