She decided she wanted to play on the trampoline, and one of her favorite things to do is to run around and be chased by someone on the outside. She runs like crazy and giggle and thinks it's the funniest thing ever. Well, she had been on the trampoline for no more than 30 seconds, and I mentioned to Mark that he needed to zip the safety net, and not 5 seconds later Riley went FLYING right. out. the side. Face first, flew onto the pavement. We all watched the whole thing, and could do nothing to stop it, it happened so fast. She didn't even have time to put her hands up, she literally took the hit right on the face... her mouth, chin, and cheek. Her neck bent in a way that did not look normal, but she didn't end up hurting her neck at all. But her poor mouth. She knocked one of her top teeth right out, and had cuts all over her face, and it got swollen immediately. Of course she was crying hysterically, and Mark and I KNEW this could have been prevented. It was totally our fault. She was in so much pain and it was heartbreaking to watch. It seriously just crushed me. She was so sad the whole night, we had an emergency dentist appointment the next morning, where we determined two of her other teeth were loose, and she had to go on a soft diet for 7-10 days in hopes of them firming up. She was a superstar at the dentist, and she was so good and so compliant, they gave her a bag of like 20 toys to take home with her! And she of course insisted on going to preschool that day as well. My little trooper.
If you are facebook friends with me, you already know about our little tragedy last week with Riley bug. But if you're not, then let me explain. Last Tuesday evening, Mark, the kids and I were all playing out in the backyard. The little ones were roaming from the swings to the slide to the sand pit, as they normally do. Riley accidentally got smacked in the face pushing her brother in the swing, which caused her to cut her chin, but she made a quick recovery and was back out playing in no time. She decided she wanted to play on the trampoline, and one of her favorite things to do is to run around and be chased by someone on the outside. She runs like crazy and giggle and thinks it's the funniest thing ever. Well, she had been on the trampoline for no more than 30 seconds, and I mentioned to Mark that he needed to zip the safety net, and not 5 seconds later Riley went FLYING right. out. the side. My little trooper. Now, 10 days later, her cuts have all healed, all that's left is the brusiing on her cheek and her missing tooth. She is the cutest, goofiest little thing, and I'm still recovering from her fall. I can't believe she will have no tooth for YEARS. But I'm thankful that it wasn't worse, because it could have been. I'm thankful she didn't lose those two other teeth, because she could have. I'm thankful that she is so so tough, and even when she was in so much pain, and her daddy and i were crushed, she consoled US by saying "Daddy it's okay that you forgot to close the net, because it was an accident. It's okay." This kid. I love her so much it hurts.

Mark and I play on a co ed soccer team, and we have games every Sunday. Lately we have been bringing Riley to our games, and she sits on the sidelines and watches and hangs out, and she absolutely LOVES coming!! And it has totally sparked her love for soccer!! She loves to play play play and she's a soccer superstar!! I love watching her run around and dribble and kick the ball and score goals!
Riley has now been to 8 days of preschool. 8 days in, and she absolutely loves it. I have to say, I was hesitant to put her in preschool. I mean, she has been home with me since day 1, and because I set my own work schedule, there was no NEED to put her in preschool. And I LIKE having her home with me during the day! But she was really wanting to have some friends to play with, and Mark and I agree we want her to learn some social skills in preschool that we can't provide for her at home, and so we decided it was time for her to go to preschool 3 mornings a week. I dropped her off on the first day and she gave me a quick wave goodbye and never looked back. She adores her friends at school. She adores her teachers. She is learning new songs and getting to play with new games, she pretty much loves every single thing about it. And I get to have some one on one time with Jackson now during the week, and even get some errands done like grocery shopping, which is so so much easier with only one toddler in tow! Every day she has preschool we do a little preschool journal... basically a place where she can tell me about her day, draw a picture, and eventually I will put her daily preschool picture in it! Yes, I said daily. I take a picture of her every morning before school... with her super awesome outfits and facial expressions, I plan on putting all the pictures together into a little video at the end of the year! So far so good, haven't missed a day yet, so hopefully I can keep it up! All the above pictures were taken on her first day of school. Obviously before her traumatic fall, so she still has all her teeth. :) It makes me sad looking at these pictures and her cutest little smile, knowing she won't ever have that little baby smile again. :( Sigh, I guess I just have to get over it.
Today was kind of our first taste of real fall weather. The not quite so warm, overcast day that means summer really is over. I'm embracing it. It means that FALL is here, which means fall leaves, and HALLOWEEN, and pumpkin flavored everything! But I will miss the nice hot sun that lets the kids run outside like this:
Looks like these big monthly blog posts are going to become a regular thing around here. Here's a little photo recap of our adventures last month... The kids love to play outside (as all kids do), and they love to roam around and play on the front steps and driveway, especially in the evenings when they get to wait for daddy to come home from work! Riley is such a goofball all the time. The faces she makes when I am trying to take her picture are priceless. Early in August we went to go and visit Jennie down in Long Beach. Just Riley and I went, leaving Jack at home with daddy! I have many more pictures from our time down there, but I am hoping to eventually put together a little video, so well see if that ever happens. :) There was lots of Aunt Jennie time, hanging out at the beach, and playing lots and lots of fetch with Penny! Riley has been pretty good about naps/rest time lately, and when she wakes up from her nap, she goes and uses the potty, gets out of her (dry) pull-up and into her clothes, and then accessorizes before coming to see me. This is often what I see when she finally exits her room post-nap. Jack and Riley's relationship has its ups and downs, but they do actually play well together sometimes. :) She loves to tickle him, and he loves to give her lots and lots of cuddles! Other things that are very popular these days? TRAINS, wrestling/jumping on daddy, dress-up, and more trains. And anything that involves being outside. I love moments like these. Absolutely love them. Jacky is so funny, he LOVES trains, but he gets so so mad if things don't go exactly like he wants... if the track breaks, or the train gets stuck, watch out, he will start throwing tracks and trains left and right! I have finally edited Jackson's 18 month pictures too, so I should probably do his 18 month update before he turns 19 months in 2 days... Oops. Also coming up... my thoughts on Riley starting preschool!!
The fall is busy season for photographers, and my September is looking... BUSY. I keep meaning to update this but I have so many photos to still go through and edit! Gah this whole stay at home mom during the week plus running a business is HARD!
But, on that note... guess who starts preschool for the very first time in two days?? Is it sad for me to admit that I really don't want her to go?? |
