First of all, I didn't get around to finishing my photos for Scavenger Hunt Sunday this week, which I am pretty bummed about, which means I am definitely doing it next week... But I did take a picture for this week's "Shoot and edit" challenge, which really involves minimal work because it's just a shot straight out of the camera! In fact, every shot in this post is straight out of the camera, come to think of it.  Anyway, this week's theme was something that says, "Goodnight" to you.  This is part of our bedtime routine every single night.  Bath time with daddy, sucking on the finger puppet.

In non-related news, we had Riley's 7 month check today.  She's getting bigger and taller, and hitting all her milestones on time, so all is good in that aspect.  But the nurse we saw was not so pleased about her solid-eating habits.  Which confuses me a little bit, I guess different people have different opinions/idea about solid food.  See, I thought at this point, breast milk was still the most important source of nutrition for Riley, and food was really just for practice, so they can learn how to chew and swallow and they get exposed to new tastes and textures.  Well, she told me that (1) Riley NEEDS to be eating 3 meals of solid food a day (2) She should only be getting 4 milk feeds a day (3) I should NEVER nurse her in the night (4) if she won't eat solids, and she's hungry, I am NOT to nurse her, because eventually if she's hungry, she'll eat the solid foods.  Oh yeah AND, she told me that if Riley is locking her lips and not wanting to eat, then she is being "naughty."  Hmmm.  I know she's supposed to be the expert here, but I'm not buying it.  Any of it.  I know Riley is a little behind the curve in her solid eating abilities, but I'm not really concerned, some babies just are not that interested in solids for a little while longer.  Riley's gaining weight well, my only concern is that she's not getting enough iron, but I'm working on ways to get iron in her diet.  So remember what I said yesterday about advice?  I think even the most "knowledgeable" people give bad advice.

Today I had little Taylor here again, and he and Riley are pretty funny together.  This little rattle toy was a hot item today.  Look at Taylor giving Riley the stare down:

Yup.  These two are precious.

Anyway, Riley is 7 MONTHS tomorrow, so check back for her 7 month-day post!

Your SOOC shots are BEAUTIFUL! So is your daughter!

I would NOT listen to that nurse at all. Sorry I'm a mom of 9, wrote a book on nutrition and simply disagree with almost everything she said to you. After six months I too would not have her waking me up for feedings. That is the only thing I agreed with. But you do NOT have to introduce solid foods three times a day. Most people introduce foods too soon and with the wrong things. I could go on and on...this is a hot topic for me for many reasons. If you would like to know more - email me :-) I don't want to bore the rest of your readers.

BIG HUGS! You are doing a great job Mom!

Love your SOOC shot and love those other photos too. So cute. Take it for what it's worth but I do remember reading in my child development classes that babies/kids will try to protest when they don't like something. If you give in, it sets a president for future circumstances so I tend to agree with the doc that if she doesn't want to eat solid foods, don't give in...she will get hungry. Alright, that's all I've got from the non-parent. :)

Cute photos. Awesome for SOOC, can't wait to see your edit.

I think breast milk should still be the main nutrition. I had the same thoughts as you. They want me to feed Carsyn more solids since he isn't growing. He won't eat baby food though, but will eat table food. The doctor told me to feed him at night since he is so small. With night feedings he is drinking breast milk like 8 times a day.

Your sooc shots are adorable -- and I love the whole conversation collage! :)

And I'm not a mom, but I'm not agreeing with most things the nurse said... As long as your baby is growing and is healthy, then you must be doing something right! And all babies do things at different times. :) I'll leave it at that!

First, loving all the photos. Especially the Shoot & Edit one - oh those blue eyes!!

Now, I can't not comment on the checkup part as a mom myself and one who breastfed my son to 13 months. In the first days of his life I was accused of underfeeding him and then overfeeding him! You can't win! LOL I personally, wouldn't stress over what that nurse said especially if your daughter is gaining weight & growing ok. We did start our son on 3 meals at a day around 6 months, but they were small (think a few ounces of 1 veggie or cereal) and it was because my mom was here caring for me after a surgery. I was much more laid back about it while she pushed forward and got him started. He was still nursing several times a day and a couple overnight. He didn't start to sleep through the night (7-8hrs) until 8 months when I did the cry it out for a couple of nights (awful few nights, but worth it to me).

I was actually given grief as he got closer to 12 months for not breastfeeding enough! We were slowly weaning - I just matched his wants. It wasn't me forcing it. In the end, our methods worked just fine. The night before he turned 13mo, I nursed him at bedtime. Then never again and he never looked for it.

I guess the point of my long post, I strongly believe that moms know best. Believe in your instincts. :) Oh, and for iron, try giving her vitamins with them if you aren't already doing so. We still use Poly-Vi-Sol + Iron - smells and tastes awful to me but my son takes them easily.

Oh my goodness. Your baby is just perfect. What a little doll! And I love her playmate too. Very sweet series! I can't wait to see how you make your picture better because it looks just about perfect to me! : )
