Every 6 months we have to get a Warrant of Fitness for our car... basically they check everything out and make sure our car is safe to drive. There's a standard list of things they check, and if all is good, you pay $50, get a little sticker in your window, and get to be on your way and good to go for the next 6 months. Ha. If only... Our WOF expired about 2 weeks ago, so we took our car in today to get a new one. We left our car with the people, and came back to retrieve it in about an hour. When we arrived back, the guy looked at us, and said, "Is this your car? It needs some work..." Uh oh. We clearly failed to get our WOF, for 4 different reasons. We knew one already (front headlight is out), but apparently the car battery is not secure (missing a bolt I think, not a huuuuuuge deal), but the big red flag is that the steering rack is not secure, and next to that he wrote (and underlined) "Dangerous not to be driven." Sigh. Other things that were wrong with car, but apparently did not affect our failing to get the WOF included major oil leaks, and something about shocks getting soft. So basically he needs to get a quote for us to see how much it's going to cost to fix all the above things, and in the mean time, our car is dangerous and shouldn't be driven. And seeing how we only have one car (and I have to drive to and from work), this is kind of a problem. Any guesses as to how much all this work is going to cost? Maybe while they are at it we should have them fix our heater/air conditioning? What's another couple hundred dollars, right? Waaaaaaaah. Maybe for Christmas I'll ask Santa for a bicycle with a baby seat attachment.
In my next life, I'm going to live in a place where we don't need a car to get around. It's a perfect solution. No need for insurance, gas, repairs, nothing! I'll just get a really good bike. That's how much I am not happy about our car right now. "What happened?" you ask? Let me share.
