We made it to New Zealand... luckily. We left on Wednesday, and barely made it onto our flight. I got off work early on Wednesday, and casually drove home to meet my mom, who was going to drop Mark and I off at the airport. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 6:30, and it was only 3:15, so I took a shower, loaded the stuff up in the car, and printed last minute directions and information for when we arrived. Mark took a quick shower, and at 3:45 we were off. We were flying domestic (San Fran to LA, then LA to Auckland) but for some reason we heard we still needed to get to the airport 2 hours in advance. Whatever, better safe than sorry.
So we are in route, in a bit of traffic, and I double check I have everything in my carry-on... passport, wallet, keys, etc... got it. I grab the itinerary to see what time our flight leaves out of LA to see what our layover is like, and I then i see it... ARRIVAL LAX 6:30 PM....not departure of 6:30, but ARRIVAL. I froze. Panic. This couldn't be right, I swear I checked this a million times. But there it is, black and white, our departure time was 5pm. So I asked Mark to get out his itinerary, which says departure time 4:45PM, even earlier!!!!! We were going to miss our flight (seeing how it was 4:05 and we were still in the car). I broke the news to my mom, and she put on her game face, weaving in and out of cars, pedal to the metal, and by some miracle we made it to the airport at 4:15. We grabbed our bags sprinted to the line to check in, read the big sign that said NO BAGS WILL BE CHECKED LESS THAN 45 MINUTES BEFORE DEPARTURE TIME. So we got the big "ERROR, please wait for assistance", on the check in counter. We hurried some poor man to help us, and luckily he rushed our bags through, checked us in, wished us luck, and told us to RUN. And that's what we did.
We sprinted through security, and it would figure that Mark got stopped to be searched more thoroughly, which left me to get all our stuff from the x-ray machines. I stumbled out of the way with 2 computers, 2 backpacks, wallet, keys, boarding passes, shoes, sweatshirts, trying to hurry but not leave anything behind. I managed to pack it all up right as Mark was finished, and we sprinted on our way to the gate. Little did I know that I forgot to actually zip up my backpack, and as I was running, I heard something drop, then something else, and before you knew it the contents of my bag were sprawled out all over the floor of the airport. And I look up just to see Mark sprinting off into the distance. "Some honeymoon...." was all I could think. I think people felt sorry for me, as like 5 or 6 different guys helped me pick all my stuff up.
But in the end, we made it on the flight, out of breath and ready for a nap. Interesting start to the week!

Um so can I tell you that I am sitting at work as you, Mimi and Mark, fly half way around the world and it kind of hit me and I'm sort of trying not to cry since my floor is all men and they aren't so good at understanding these things...
