We are settling back in to our NZ lifestyle. After many days off (new Zealand is the best in terms of time off for holidays), Mark is now back to work, and Riley and I are left to our own devices during the day. She has been SUPER clingy lately, which has been a bit challenging, but I do love all the extra snuggles I'm getting. It also means lots of requests for her "pay pay" (paci) at times other than bed time. Today I gave in since she was having a particularly rough morning (poor baby was constipated and in lots of pain!) I swore that once Riley turned one I was getting rid of the paci. Didn't happen. And now? I don't know what to do. She LOVES that thing. We try not to give it to her unless it's nap or bed time (or in the car), but that doesn't always happen. I have no idea how we're going to get rid of that thing. Siiigh, at least it makes her happy. Also on her current list of obsessions? Her blankie, which she has named gray-gray. She actually has two identical ones, and wants them with her at all times. I made the mistake of letting her see me transfer both of her blankies from the washing machine into the dryer the other day, and oh my god you would have thought I broke her little heart, seeing her blankies go into the dryer and then have it turned on. She flipped out big time. Note to self for the future- do not let the little one see her most precious blankies getting washed and dried! So anyway, after a very rough morning/early afternoon, which was apparently caused by Riley's first real bout of constipation, we had a wonderful afternoon. It was like night and day... miserable, irritable baby turned totally happy, chill baby. We celebrated by reading a zillion books.... And we played on the bed, where she counted and played with clothespins, and pointed out and named all her body parts, including tongue, eyes, and um, nose... And we finished off the night with a lovely bubble bath for the little one, a few songs, and then she was fast asleep in her big girl bed in just minutes. A fabulous end to a day that started off a little rough! Now off to enjoy a movie with my husband. :)
