Life these days...

...is just so amazingly good.  I mean, sure there are the usual ups and downs, but lately, it really just feels like everything is looking up up up!  Riley is possibly the happiest baby ever these days.  And not only is she happy, but she is pretty hilarious.  When we're driving, all of a sudden she'll just bust out laughing for no apparent reason.  And she'll get excited over who-knows-what, and start flapping her arms and kicking her legs and squealing!  She babbles all day long, and thinks I am just so very funny.  And she gets SO excited to see Mark when he gets home from work, she goes nuts!!  We are literally loving every minute with her.  So much so that when she's sleeping, every night we are tempted to go in and grab her and snuggle with her.  In fact, on the rare night that she wakes up before we go to bed, we get excited because we get to snuggle with her for a few minutes.  She is just absolutely amazing.

Some of the funny things she's doing lately...
  • she's obsessed with reading books (we literally read 30 books a day), and when we come to the last page, she starts to breathe really fast and gets all worked up, and if I don't get another book in hand ASAP, she starts to cry like the world is ending because we are not reading another book right. this. second.  i can't help but laugh a little
  • she gets easily distracted, so she will crawl toward something, but then see something new and change course, but then see something else she wants, and redirect again, and on and on and on...
  • sometimes she can't decide if she wants to stand or sit, so she'll crawl over to me and grab my fingers to stand, and then decide she wants to sit... no stand... no sit.... so she'll go up, down, up, down, about 20 times in a row
  • she is determined to grab/poke/touch Taylor when he's here.  And the poor boy doesn't crawl yet so he can't escape her.  I think the last straw was when she tried to use his HEAD to pull up to stand.

  • She loves to climb on and over things (like our legs).
  • She yells at you if you don't feed her her favorite foods (yogurt) fast enough.
  • She tries to eat the rug constantly, only it sort of looks like she's bobbing for apples.  She also tried that on the hardwood floor... I bet you can guess how that ended... :(
  • She will follow her daddy all around the house, because she loves him THAT much.

I think that because Riley used to be a horrible sleeper, we have a real appreciation for how AMAZING a sleeper she is now.  She goes to sleep without crying pretty much every time.  At night?  I lay her in her crib, and she's out in about a minute.  She wakes up happy.  She plays in her crib.  She sleeps for an hour and a half to two hours for naps.  And she totally goes with the flow now.  And I feel like I can totally enjoy and appreciate this because this was totally not the case for her first 6 months of life.  She's pretty much the best baby ever.

It almost makes me want another one.  :)

Hey just wanted to say I love your blog - I follow a fair few blogs and yours is one of my favourites! It's so good that everything is going great with Riley. My son is about 2 months younger and is generally a happy baby but still wakes a couple of times at night and doesn't like going down for naps... I was dubious about letting him cry because I don't like the idea but it seems to have worked well for you so maybe I will give it a go - I will probably have to leave the house too though! Anyway keep up the great blogging :)

i read about some of your sleep training. i have gone through it twice now, and people that say that they don't are crazy. or they are still waking up with their kids and they are 3 or 4...you did a great thing for her, and for you. now you know, they are simply happier and more content when they are well rested! she is adorable!
