Don't worry, I'm not doing weekly updates for long, probably just until he is one month, or until I forget to do it, whichever comes first. Plus, he's really not doing much, so it's really mostly just pictures! But what he is doing these days: sleeping, eating, and pooping, mostly. But also starting to be more alert and open his eyes a bit more. And yes, so far, they are blue. We'll see if they stay that way! He JUST started semi-liking a pacifier, but only occasionally. Usually he spits it out, which makes Riley very sad and confused. She's always trying to give him his "baby pay-pay," which usually means trying to shove it in his mouth whether he likes it or not! Funny thing is, he refuses to take the kind of paci that Riley loved when she was a newborn, he will only take the soothie paci you see in the pictures (which Riley hated). At one week old he still sleeps a lot, and in fairly long stretches during the day. He still seems to have his days and nights mixed up, so he's usually wide awake late at night (when I want to be sleeping). His longest stretch of sleep so far is probably around 3 hours. He will pretty much sleep anywhere...in his bed, being held, on the couch, in the swing, in his baby seat, car seat... he's a really good baby! Luckily for us, he's not bothered at all by lots of noise, and seems to prefer it to the quiet. He doesn't startle easily, and he is not bothered by Riley's rough kisses and touches and "sharing" efforts. He's been poked and squished and kissed to death by big sister, and he doesn't mind one bit. This little one is a little milk monster, and has been a good eater since the start. He had gotten above his birth weight at just 5 days old! Our only little struggle is my overabundance of milk, but he seems to be doing alright, even when I drown him in milk. And man can this baby poop. I haven't actually counted how many diapers we change per day, but it is definitely somewhere around 15. He poops all. the. time. He loves to be held upright with his head on our shoulder or chest. But he's pretty much happy wherever he is. He is really starting to take in the world around him and stare intently at our faces. He only really cries when (1) he's hungry or (2) has a bit of gas, which is usually resolved pretty quickly. His umbilical cord has not fallen off yet, so we haven't been able to give him a real bath yet, but he had his first sponge bath last night in the big tub with Mark and Riley. We weren't sure what he'd think since sponge baths are usually not that nice, and a little cold, but we cranked up the heat in the bathroom, and Riley helped wash him with a wash cloth, and he basically slept through it! Hardly even cried when I was drying him off and getting him dressed! His neck is really strong, and he can hold his head up quite well for a one week old! We haven't really started tummy time, I was sort of waiting for his cord to fall off, so we'll probably start that soon. I'm sure he won't really be bothered by it at all, but we'll see. He's pretty much an awesome baby, and tied with Riley for the cutest baby we've ever seen. Now if only we could get him sleeping this soundly during the NIGHT instead of the day. :) Happy one week to my little baby boy!
