Potty training (days 2 & 3)

I'm not going to keep giving the play by play for each day, as that will get pretty boring.  Plus, to be honest, I don't have the time to write it all down and my memory is not that awesome!  Here's a summary of days 2 and 3.

DAY 2:
Riley woke up with a big wet diaper (not surprising- although not sure if it was actually dry when she woke up since she plays in her bed for a little while before coming out, so it could have been dry).  We stripped off her pants and diaper and let her be naked again.  In the morning she peed on the potty about 3 times, with no accidents.  Then, my awesome husband was letting me sleep a little bit (since baby was up all night- more on that later), so he had both kids.  As he was trying to give Jackson a bottle, Riley had her first accident of the day.  POOP on the floor!  Her response?  "Whoopsies!  Whoopsies!  Ri Ri can grab it??"  Oh my gosh I'm still laughing trying to picture Mark with the baby and a bottle in his hands, trying to convince Riley not to pick up the poop on the floor, and her repeating "whoopsies."  But again, this accident happened when we as parents weren't fully available to her.

She peed on the potty before her nap, and we put her in a pull-up for her nap.  I'm not sure if she woke up dry, as after she woke up she stayed in her bed for a wee while, but when she came out her pull-up was a little bit wet.  She peed on the floor once after nap, but Mark managed to grab her and she finished peeing on the potty.  She also pooped on the potty, which I know can be a huge hurdle in potty training.  She didn't have any more accidents, was able to stay dry for over 2 hours at a time, and did a big pee pee on the potty before bed!!

Now, writing that down, it sounds like she's getting the hang of it.  But, a lot of these pee pees on the potty required a lot of encouraging on our part- as in, asking her to go sit on the potty, convincing her to stay on the potty with TV shows or toys or books.  The next big step is her consistently taking the initiative to go and sit on the potty as soon as she feels she needs to go.

DAY 3:
Another poop on the floor incident in the morning, but that was her only accident of the day!!  She peed on the potty a bunch of times throughout the day, woke up dry from her nap, and even voluntarily walked over to the potty, sat down, and went!!

Now, we decided for day 3 that we were going to try something a little bit different.  A lot of what I read said not to put her in underwear, just let her be naked, but she has some Minnie Mouse underwear and she's really motivated not to pee on them, so we thought we'd give it a go.  I actually think it made a big difference, and she really liked wearing her underwear.  She was really happy to wake up from her nap and get to take off her pull-up , and put on her Minnie and Daisy underwear!

She also survived her first diaper-less outing (to the supermarket), and managed to stay dry the whole time. I'm a little nervous for tomorrow when Mark's back at work and not able to help me during the day.  We'll see how it goes! And I still can't get used to the sight of Riley trotting around the house in little underwear!!
