Why hello there, December!

December is one of the best months there is.  There's just so much Christmas excitement, so many fun traditions to start and activities to do and things to see.  There are trees and lights and santa and music and peppermint flavored everything!  And now that Riley is a little older, my love for this time of year just grew big time.  I LOVE family traditions, and holiday traditions are the BEST.  I might go a little overboard, but this year we're really getting in to the family traditions.  One of the many we are starting this year is "Elf on the Shelf."  Heard of it?  Let me introduce you to the elf that currently resides in our house:

_We opted not to go with the elf/book combo that's sold in every store everywhere, mostly because that elf is kind of hideous, and this one is so cute! Now, Riley is a bit young to undestand the concept behind the whole thing, but she's not too young to search for the elf's new hiding spot every morning when she wakes up!

Today we spent a good portion of the day hard at work in our "workshop," making some very important Christmas gifts. can't share too much, although I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way everything turned out.  And let's just say by doing it DIY style, the cost went from about $15 (plus shipping) per gift to about $3.  That's a big savings when you are making a lot of them!!

Aaaaaaand loving it (this is her going "yay! yay! yay!")

And all done and ready to be cleaned up.  Yikes.  Now you see why she is topless.

This upcoming week has a lot of fun holiday activities in store for us.  Tomorrow we're going to take some holiday photos of Riley while visiting the huge Christmas tree at Stanford mall (and we might even go say hi to santa!).  We're hoping to pick out and decorate our Christmas tree, read lots of Christmas stories and sing every Christmas song we know over and over and over.  Current favorites include jingle bells and rudolph the red nosed reindeer... Riley is obsessed.  She also knows who santa is, and can say santa and rudolph and jing (for jingle bells), so she's catching on to this whole holiday cheer business!

Now let's just hope I have a cooperative little one for my photo idea tomorrow!
